From talent content to promotions to advertising, we’re constantly striving to be “in the moment.” But don’t overlook imaging. Imaging is another powerful tool you can use to reflect your audience’s lifestyle and demonstrate that your station is on the same page with them.
Fresh, fun, topical imaging on your station stands out like a just-raked yard. And this time of the year provides plenty of content opportunities you can draw upon to write original “capture the moment” imaging that enriches the listening experience while making that strong statement about relevance.
Own Events and Holidays
What will you write for: Halloween, the change from Daylight Saving Time, the CMA Awards Show, Veterans’ Day/Remembrance Day, Thanksgiving, Black Friday, Christmas, and New Year’s Eve/New Year’s Day?
Plus there’s late fall weekend chores, new TV shows, 4th quarter movie releases, football, the World Series, Boxing Day, and any number of local events. And of course there’s pumpkin spice everything.
Add “original takes” on relevant activities/events/people/pop culture that attract listeners’ attention (incorporating the “Stranger Things” theme on a morning show promo during Stranger Things premier week). “Invisible” imaging is at best irrelevant and at worst simply noise.
Imaging Execution
Put a stationality spin on your writing so that it reinforces your station’s brand image.
Sound real and listener-focused. Imaging (and any content) that is rooted in listener behavior is powerful. Think about the impact of this type of imaging versus random, out of context audio pieces or the equally meaningless, hollow and generic “I love your station” voice drops.
Communicate core values – yours and your listeners’.
Be brief, sincere and creative. What are the big and small shared experiences you can use that will make your imaging resonate with listeners?
Write Like It Matters
Throughout the year there are multiple opportunities to connect with listeners through Carpe Diem imaging. And, in the process, make your station stand out like that just raked lawn.
Don’t miss out on these opportunities.
Write like it matters – because it does.
